
Pack Falls to #2 Pitt on Senior Day

RALEIGH, N.C. – Despite a solid performance, the NC State volleyball team fell to second-ranked Pitt Sunday afternoon on Senior Day. In the Pack's final home match of 2019, Pitt won by set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-22.
Pam Chukwujekwu had a stellar performance, highlighted by seven kills and five blocks. Five of Chukwujekwu's kills came in the fifth-set where she hit .500. Melissa Evans recorded a team-high eight kills while Jessica Kemp also finished the day with seven. Nina Sharpton recorded a match-high 30 assists while Kaylee Frazier led NC State with 11 digs.
Kayla Lund led the Panthers with a match-high 18 kills on a .351 hitting percentage.
Following the conclusion of the match, NC State recognized its three seniors - Grace Irvin, Jessica Kemp and Lauryn Terry. As a senior class, the three have totaled 67 wins and 43 ACC wins. Additionally, the three were a part of the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win (2017) and the highest-ranked win in program history (against #10 Florida State in 2017).
"We're really proud of our seniors, not only for their performances, but the legacy they are leaving for our program," said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "We still have one more match on the road so it's not over. But as far as a senior day, their last time playing here [Reynolds], I'm really proud of our competitiveness and how we played that match. Really just thankful for our seniors who have left a legacy that is going to last well beyond their years here."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Down as much as five in the first set, NC State forced three-straight hitting errors from the Panthers, three of which came off the Pack's block. With three consecutive kills, NC State inched within one, 13-12, but could not take the lead as Pitt finished out the set with nine kills in its final 12 points. The Panthers then used a .441 hitting percentage to take the second set.
In what turned out to be the most competitive set, the third featured eight ties and five lead changes. NC State opened the set with a 5-2 lead, it's first of the match, before Pitt had a 4-0 run for a 6-5 lead. The Wolfpack's largest advantage, 12-9, came on four-straight kills from Pam Chukwujekwu, Jade Parchment and Kemp. NC State held onto a 16-14 lead before Pitt pieced together another run for a two-point advantage, 18-16. With the set tied at 20, Pitt outscored NC State 5-2 to end the match.

NC State will conclude its 2019 season next week, Saturday, Nov. 30 at Boston College. The match is scheduled for 12 p.m. on ACC Network.

- Evans' eight kills bring her season total to 385, the fourth most for a single-season in the rally scoring era of the program.
- With her one block today, Terry moves into 10th all-time at NC State with 354 career-blocks. The 354 is also the fourth-most in rally scoring era of the program.
