
Evans Matches Career-High in Season Finale at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – Melissa Evans matched a career-high 23 kills in a five-set thriller Saturday afternoon at Boston College. NC State concludes the season with an 11-19 record and 6-12 in the ACC. Boston College (20-11, 11-7 ACC) took the match by set scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 13-15.
Evans' 23 kills came on a .339 hitting percentage and brought her to a total of 408 on the season. With that, Evans becomes the second all-time player in program history to eclipse 400 kills in the rally scoring era, behind only Julia Brown who did so twice in 2016 and 2017. Evans had 959 total kills in her career which ranks fifth in the rally-scoring era at NC State. Evans' 408 this season rank second in the ACC.
Jessica Kemp and Jade Parchment both reached double-digits with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Kaylee Frazier had a match-high 34 digs while Kemp and Sharpton each had a match-high six blocks. NC State out-blocked the Eagles 12-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After dropping the first set, NC State halted the Boston College offense in the second, holding the Eagles to a .136 hitting percentage. After BC took a 13-12 lead, the Wolfpack fired off a 9-0 run to take a 21-13 lead and win the set.
NC State hit above .250 in both sets it won, coming out strong in the third and hitting .308 as a team. After opening the third set with a 5-0 run, Boston College responded with seven unanswered-points allowing themselves to take a 7-5 lead. NC State worked its way back in, tying the match at 15, before using five unanswered points and back-to-back kills from Parchment to move ahead 20-16. The Pack would not relinquish the lead again, winning the third set.
Boston College took the fourth set after erasing a three-point NC State lead and ending with six unanswered points. The Eagles eventually came away with a five-set win thanks to a .306 hitting percentage and three blocks. The match total had 28 assists and 17 lead changes, including seven ties in the fifth set.

- With her 52 assists Saturday afternoon, Sharpton became the first NC State player in the rally-scoring era to eclipse 1,000 assists as a freshman.
- In her first season as libero, Kaylee Frazier finishes the season with 449 digs and 4.28 digs per set. Both rank second in the ACC.
- Evans' 3.55 kills per set ranks seventh while she is one of only three players in the ACC to eclipse 400 kills this season.
- Terry finishes her collegiate career ranked 10th all-time at NC State with 353 career blocks which is fourth in the rally scoring era of the program. a
