Wolfpack Set To Face BYU In Round Of Sixteen Saturday

PROVO, Utah – NC State women's soccer (12-6-4) will make its third Sweet Sixteen appearance in the past four years Saturday when it faces second-seeded and host BYU (20-0-1) at South Field in Provo, Utah. The matchup is slated for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff, and will be broadcast on BYU TV ($).
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Wolfpack and Cougars.
LAST TIME OUT
Defenders Kia Rankin (18') and Lulu Guttenberger (48') scored a goal apiece en route to the Pack's 2-1 win over Arkansas on Thursday in Provo in the NCAA Second Round.
NC STATE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The program is 14-12-6 all-time with 15 total appearances in the NCAA Tournament, and has moved forward out of the first round 12 times. The Pack has now advanced to the Sweet Sixteen three times in the last four years (2016, '18 and '19), and has reached the third round of the NCAA Championship six times total.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
If NC State were to win Saturday, it would advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history since the expansion of the tournament to 64 teams. The Pack would face the winner of the Stanford bracket.
SCOUTING BYU
The Cougars, the last remaining undefeated team in the NCAA, shut out Louisville, 4-0, in the NCAA Second Round following a 5-1 victory over Boise State in the first round.
BYU won the West Coast Conference regular season title for the second-straight year, and nine players collected postseason honors from the league. Head coach Jennifer Rockwood was additionally tabbed WCC Coach of the Year.
Elise Flake (20) and Mikayla Colohan (16) lead the squad in goals, while six different players are in double digits in points. Sabrina Davis has played a majority of time in goal this year, and the goalkeeping staff owns 12 shutouts this year.
