GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second time in as many meets raced this season, NC State women's cross country freshman Kelsey Chmiel was named ACC Women's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native garners the honors for the second time this season after also being tabbed Freshman of the Week after the Wolfpack's season opener.
Chmiel continued her impressive start to her rookie campaign with a 15th-place individual finish at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational last week. She dropped a best time of 16:36.91 in the women's 5K, making it back-to-back weeks that she has recorded personal bests in that event.
Chmiel was the second-highest freshman finisher on the women's side and ranked third among all of the ACC runners competing in the race after only seniors Anna Rohrer of Notre Dame (sixth place) and teammate Elly Henes (ninth place).
The Wolfpack freshman has played a major role in contributing to NC State's scoring this season. Chmiel has finished as the Pack's No. 2 runner in each of the team's first two meets of the 2019 season.
NC State will head two ways for its final weekend of regular-season competition as it sends runners to the ECU Pirate Invitational and the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 18.
