Rizzi's Home Run Lifts NC State to Win Over North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. – A two-run home run by Angie Rizzi powered the NC State softball team to a 5-4 fall ball victory against North Carolina, Sunday afternoon at Dail Softball Stadium.

Rizzi was one of five different players to record a hit during the game. All five of NC State's runs were scored in the third inning after Carson Shaner led off the frame with a hit by pitch. Back-to-back singles from Sam Russ and Tatyana Forbes loaded the bases. A sac fly and RBI double from Brigette Nordberg put the first three runs of the day on the board. Rizzi's home run made the Pack lead 5-0.

Down 5-1, North Carolina made things interesting in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs. The Tar Heels opened the inning with a lead off walk followed by a single. After a fly out, the Tar Heels scored runs on back-to-back RBIs. A third consecutive batter reached base on an error before Nester retired the next two, securing the win.

Sydney Nester saw a majority of the work in the circle for NC State, striking out eight batters on the day.
