SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The NC State men's and women's cross country teams hit the road for the first time this season as they line up against some of the nation's top squads at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The meet is set for the afternoon of Friday, Oct. 4 at the Notre Dame Golf Course.

The Pack will field up to eight runners in each of the Blue races, with its remaining entries running in the Open races immediately following.
The meet is scheduled as follows:
NC State returns to the Notre Dame Invitational for the first time since the 2017 cross country season. The meet pits the Wolfpack against a competitive field that features 23 nationally-ranked teams across the men's and women's races.
The Wolfpack women are one of 11 top-30 teams and one of five top-10 programs that will compete at the meet. Top-ranked Colorado, No. 2 New Mexico, No. 6 Washington and No. 9 Wisconsin will join NC State in toeing the line on the women's side on Friday afternoon.
On the men's side, the Pack is one of 12 top-30 teams and one of six top-15 programs. That field also features the likes of No. 4 Colorado, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 10 Wisconsin, No. 13 Colorado State and No. 14 Ole Miss.
PACK IN THE POLLS:
The Wolfpack squads maintained their spots in the top 30 of the NCAA Division I National Coaches' Polls, which were last released Oct. 1.
NC State's women kept a hold of their spot as the highest-ranked ACC team and checked in at No. 8. The Pack men are ranked 15th nationally headed into the weekend.
Both the men and the women have remained ranked in the top 15 from the release of the preseason poll through the first three weeks of the season. It is the first time since 2001 that both NC State cross country teams have accomplished the feat of four-straight polls with top-15 designations.
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State opened its season at home on Sept. 20 as it hosted its annual adidas XC Challenge. The women kicked off the 2019 campaign in dominant fashion as the squad took home the women's 5K team title.
Eleven of the top 12 women's finishers were members of the Wolfpack roster. Senior Elly Henes led the way with a first-place finish, the first top individual finish of her NC State cross country career. True freshman Kelsey Chmiel followed behind her in second place. Both Henes and Chmiel were named ACC Performers of the Week following those outings.
The Pack took second place on the men's side, led by a ninth-place individual performance from Joe Bistritz.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will head two ways for its final weekend of regular-season competition as it sends athletes to the ECU Pirate Invitational and the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, Oct. 18.
