CHARLESTON, S.C. - In a top-15 matchup, the No. 15 NC State rifle team was edged by No. 5 Navy by a score of 4649-4621. The Wolfpack moves to 2-1 this season while Navy improves to 6-2.
The Wolfpack's top marks were recorded by sophomore Emily Fisher in air rifle and freshman Makenzie Sheffield in smallbore. Fisher also notched the team's top individual aggregate finish, firing a 571 in smallbore and a 590 in air rifle for an aggregate total of 1161.
Four members of the team finished in the top 10, led by Fisher's fourth-place finish. Sheffield took the sixth-place spot, senior Claire Zanti placed seventh and freshman Addy Burrow rounded out the group with a ninth-place finish.
SMALLBORE NOTES:
- Freshman John Peterson recorded a new career-high, notching a score of 567
- Peterson shot a perfect series in the prone position, recording a 200
- Zanti shot a near-perfect 199 in the prone series
- Sophomore Aron Tinter fired an almost-perfect 198 from the prone position
