
Fisher Leads #9 Wolfpack to Victory Over #23 VMI

LEXINGTON, VA. - The ninth-ranked NC State rifle team started the season 1-0 with a win at VMI on Saturday. The Wolfpack topped the Keydets 4625-4487. The result extends the Wolfpack's win streak against VMI to 4-0.
NC State was led by sophomore Emily Fisher, who posted first-place marks in both air rifle and smallbore to claim the top individual spot. Fisher fired a career-high 589 in air rifle, topping her previous record by one point, and recorded a 578 in smallbore for an aggregate score of 1167.
Making her collegiate debut, freshman Makenzie Sheffield finished in fifth place individually, completing the match with a 571 in smallbore and a 583 in air rifle.
The Wolfpack had four total individual top-10 finishes, with freshman Addy Burrow checking in at seventh place with an aggregate score of 1153 and senior Claire Zanti finishing in ninth place with a score of 1150.
"It was a good win today and a decent place to start the season," said head coach Emily Holsopple. "It was a major learning experience for our young team. We struggled to find our groove, but were able to find our fit and pull out a solid starting score. Overall there was a lot we gained from the competition and we are excited to get back to work and apply what we learned to our home opener in Reynolds next weekend."
SMALLBORE NOTES
- Fisher led the way with a 578, besting the next closest competitor by two points. She recorded a perfect 100 in her first series in prone.
- Sheffield and Burrow both had solid outings in their first collegiate performances, each tallying 571 in smallbore.
- Claire Zanti followed with a 569. Zach Eisenberg, John Peterson and Aron Tinter rounded it out with 566, 563 and 562, respectively.
AIR RIFLE NOTES
- Fisher also led the way with a 589 in air rifle. She recorded a 99 in three of her six series.
- Tinter finished fifth in air rifle with a mark of 585, headlined by a 99 in his final series.
- Sheffield was seventh in air rifle with a score of 583 followed by Burrow's 582.
- Zanti, Peterson and Eisenberg were the final three for the Pack. Zanti and Peterson both notched 581 followed by Eisenberg's 575.

The team will see action again on October 20, competing at home in Raleigh, N.C. against No. 19 North Georgia. The matchup is set to start at 8 a.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
