Rifle Ranked Ninth, Opens Season at VMI

LEXINGTON, VA. – The NC State rifle team opens its season Saturday, Oct. 12 and will travel to VMI as the ninth-ranked team in the country following the first edition of the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. The Wolfpack take on No. 23 VMI beginning at 8 a.m. in Lexington, Va.
Saturday will mark the beginning of head coach Emily Holsopple's second-season at the helm of the Wolfpack program. Holsopple returns four athletes from last year's roster, led by Emily Fisher who placed 10th at the 2019 GARC Championships.
NC State welcomes four newcomers to the 2019-20 roster, including freshman Makenzie Sheffield who most recently took gold at the American Legion 3p Air Rifle National Championships. The other newcomers are Addy Burrow, Aliya Butt and John Peterson
VMI began its 2019 season in September with a win at The Citadel. The Keydets then took a trip to Navy, facing off against the Midshipmen as well as reigning national champions TCU. VMI placed third at the matchup. NC State has never lost to VMI, winning all three matchups between the two teams.
The Wolfpack finished 2018-19 ranked No. 17 in the CRCA poll.
