RALEIGH, N.C. – After picking up its first ACC win of the season last week, NC State continues its home stand to host No. 23 Florida State and Miami for a pair of games this weekend. The matchup against the Seminoles will be at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11 followed by a 1 p.m. meeting Sunday, Oct. 13 against Miami. Both matches will be broadcast on ACCNX.
NC State (6-10, 1-3) defeated Virginia Tech in a five-set battle last week. The Pack rebounded less than two days after a tough five-set loss to North Carolina, thanks to a pair of 20-kill performances from Jessica Kemp and Melissa Evans. Kemp set a career high with 22 kills in addition to five blocks. NC State has played six five-set matches this season, including two straight.
Evans, who is third in the ACC with 4.65 kills per set, has recorded 20 or more kills four times this season, an ACC best, and is riding a 13 match double-digit kill streak. NC State will also look to Jade Parchment, who recorded back-to-back double-doubles last week. Grace Irvin stepped into the libero role at the start of the ACC season and leads the conference with 5.39 digs per set in ACC matches. As a team, NC State is second in the league with 15.41 digs per set.
SCOUTING FLORIDA STATE
Florida State (9-4, 4-1 ACC) is ranked No. 23 for the second-consecutive week after splitting a pair of matches last week. The Seminoles downed Virginia in four-sets before taking a four-set loss against Pitt. Florida State is the first ACC opponent to win a set against the Panthers this season.
2018 All-American Payton Caffrey leads the Seminoles with 3.93 kills per set and 3.02 digs per set. Caffrey is hitting at a .261 clip. Caffrey ranks second in the ACC, just ahead of Evans, in kills per set.
With three players averaging more than 1.00 blocks per set, Florida State leads the ACC and ranks eighth nationally with 2.93 as a team. Taryn Knuth is second in the nation with 1.66 blocks per set, a mark that leads the ACC.
SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami's (7-5, 3-1 ACC) only conference loss this season came to then fourth-ranked Pitt last week. The Hurricanes have defeated Wake Forest, Duke and Virginia in three, four and five sets, respectively. Before ACC play, Miami was 0-3 against Power 5 opponents.
The team's biggest win of the season came against UCF on Sept. 21, to close out non-conference play. The Hurricanes upset UCF, who was then receiving votes in the top-25 poll, in five-sets.
As a team, Miami ranks third in the ACC with 1.55 service aces per set. The Hurricanes are led by freshman Kennedy Prince who is averaging 3.38 kills per set with a total of 159 kills. 2018 All-ACC performer, Elizaveta Lukianova, is second on the team with 3.06 kills per set at an impressive .318 hitting percentage.
