RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team was unable to slow 23rd-ranked Florida State Friday evening in Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack fought in a close third set with hopes of pushing it to a fourth, but the Seminoles came out on top by set scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-19.
NC State (6-11, 1-4 ACC) was led for the second-straight match by Jessica Kemp who tallied eight kills and also contributed three blocks. Jade Parchment and Lauryn Terry added six kills each. Grace Irvin played as the libero for the first two sets, notching 12 digs before Kaylee Frazier took over in the third set. Frazier had seven digs in her first ACC match of the season.
Florida State (10-4, 4-1 ACC) was led by Payton Caffrey's match-high 11 kills while Taryn Knuth and Emma Clothier both notched five blocks.
COACH HAMPTON-KEITH'S THOUGHTS
"Moving forward we obviously want to look at how we prepare for matches and preparing to play, preparing to compete. From a lineup standpoint, we're dealing with some injuries and shifting some people around so we're just going to have to be patient through that process and allow those people the time to figure out some things so they can get comfortable and continue to compete at a high level. That's our goal."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Florida State showed its blocking strength early, picking up two of its first three points on blocks. The Pack rebounded with back-to-back points on a Seminole serving error and kill from Parchment. Down 14-6, NC State fired off three-straight kills from Terry, Evans and Parchment to pull within four but were unable to narrow the gap further.
After dropping the second set, NC State showed a lot of fight in the third with its best hitting percentage of the night. Down 6-5, the Pack ran three straight kills for its first lead of the night, 8-6. Florida State quickly took back a slim lead, 9-8. NC State hung around forcing nine ties in the set, after not having a tie in the first two sets.
The Seminoles had a 6-2 run that lifted them to a 14-11 advantage that they would not relinquish. Kemp had four kills in the third while Pam Chukwujekwu was 3-of-4 in the third set without an error.
