Gymnastics Posts Season-High in Win at UNC-CH

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The NC State gymnastics team defeated UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday night, 195.200-194.650, posting its highest score of the season. The team posted its season-high on beam (48.975) to close out the meet to move to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference competition.

Totaling nine podium finishes on the night, NC State took home first place in three events (all-around, beam, and floor). The Pack trailed after two rotations, but took the lead after a strong performance on floor led by Drew Grantham's 9.875.

Three Pack gymnasts recorded career-bests: Meredith Robinson (bars, 9.800), Melissa Brooker (bars, 9.775), and Nicole Webb (beam, 9.875).

Grantham tied her season-best on vault, posting a 9.825 to lead the Pack.

Bars - 48.825

Robinson (9.800) and Brooker (9.775) set individual career-highs opening the meet on bars. Robinson's 9.800 led the Pack and earned her a silver-medal finish. Brooker, Maggie Tamburro, and Lauren Kent finished in a three-way tie for third.

Beam - 48.975

Led by Webb (9.875), the Pack posted its highest score of the season. Grantham's 9.825 earned her bronze-medal honors, while Fillard posted a 9.800.

Floor - 48.725

Leading the Pack on floor, Grantham tied for a first-place finish while posting a season-high 9.875. Alexa Phillips and Paris Phillips followed closely behind with 9.800 scores.

"I was really proud of how we started the meet. We had a major mistake on bars, and the rest of the lineup was aggressive and delivered four great routines.

"We finished the meet super well. After last week's beam, they really got after it in practice and were tight-minded. We hit six-for-six and had a season-high on beam.

"I think this group has so much growth and so much potential, and we just haven't fully tapped into it. We need to get back to work and just work on the little details, and really focus in on the landings.

"All in all, it's always exciting to win in Chapel Hill. There were so many proud moments, and we're going to continue that momentum into next week."
