Women's Tennis Opens 2019 Dual Season Friday

The Wolfpack takes on East Tennessee State, East Carolina

RALEIGH -- The NC State women's tennis team will open its season on Friday, Jan. 18 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center against East Tennessee State and East Carolina. The matches are set to begin at 11a.m. and 4p.m. respectively. With the team coming off its most successful fall season in school history, tallying 61 singles wins and 26 doubles wins, the Wolfpack looks to open its season with a win for the fourth time in five years.
Last Time Out
The Wolfpack competed at the Orlando Invitational in Lake Nona, Fla., Jan. 11-13, collecting four ranked wins while competing against No. 16 Kansas, No. 18 Texas Tech, and Rice.
No. 20 Alana Smith and Anna Rogers went undefeated (3-0) in doubles play, collecting two wins against ranked opponents. The duo defeated No. 5 Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia (Kansas), 7-5, and No. 38 Felicity Maltby and Nell Miller (Texas Tech), 6-2.
Singles competition was highlighted by two ranked wins. To earn her 11th ranked win of her career, No. 23 Rogers recorded a win against No. 34 Koch (Kansas). Adriana Reami tallied her sixth ranked singles win of her career, defeating  No. 70 Nina Khmelnitckaia (Kansas) in three sets.
Wolfpack in the Rankings
The Oracle/ITA Division I Tennis Rankings were released on Jan. 9. NC State received votes, but finished just outside the Top 25 as a team.
Junior Anna Rogers and Alana Smith check in at No. 20 in the doubles rankings, while also being ranked No. 23 and No. 111 in singles respectively.
Pack Tracks
Senior Amanda Rebol looks to capture her 70th career singles win, the fourth-most in program history. With one doubles win on Friday, Rogers, who has the most doubles wins in the program's history, would tally her 75th doubles victory.
Scouting the Opponent
East Tennessee State
NC State leads the series with East Tennessee State, 4-0. The Bucs finished the 2018 season 13-11 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Last season, NC State defeated ETSU, 6-1, in Raleigh.
East Carolina
The Wolfpack is undefeated against East Carolina, with a 26-0 series record. The Pirates collected a 17-9 record in 2018, including a 3-5 record in their conference. NC State proved victorious in the head-to-head matchup last season, 5-2.
