The Wolfpack Took on East Tennessee State and East Carolina Friday
RALEIGH — The NC State women's tennis team is undefeated after its first day of competition during the dual season, after the Wolfpack earned a pair of 7-0 victories over East Tennessee State and East Carolina Friday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
NC State has now won its opening dual match in four of the past five seasons. Anna Rogers earned her 75th doubles win of her career and Amanda Rebol tallied her 70th career singles win against East Tennessee State.
The 20th-ranked doubles team of Rogers and Alana Smith wasted no time getting the season started off strong against East Tennessee State. The duo took the first five games and would go on to defeat Morales and Bakhodirova, 6-2.
Four of the six singles matches required three sets to capture wins against East Tennessee State, while only two singles matches required three sets against East Carolina.
Straight from the Pack: Head Coach Simon Earnshaw
"It's always a long day with a doubleheader. It's a big positive that we got outdoors again and that we've had a lot of outdoor tennis. Ahead of the ITA Kickoff, we needed that.
"It wasn't necessarily pretty, particularly the first match. We kind of got in our own way. Credit goes to East Tennessee State. They made it difficult for us.
"The takeaway today was for us to fight through some matches that in previous years we've struggled to take care of. All in all, we achieved what we set out to do.
"We'll have a couple days off and we'll get back to work on Monday."
