RALEIGH -- The NC State gymnastics team will compete at Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum in its home opener Saturday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. Taking on the No. 15 Ohio State Buckeyes, the Pack looks to start its season 2-0 for the second consecutive year.Â
Pack Preview
Holding steady at No. 25 in the national rankings this week, the Pack will take on its first ranked opponent at Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum in the 2019 season.
Three NC State gymnasts received East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) weekly honors following the team's victory at Michigan State on Jan. 5. Caitlyn Fillard was named EAGL Gymnast of the Week, Paris Phillips was named EAGL Specialist of the Week, and Meredith Robinson was named EAGL Rookie of the Week.
Last season, when the Pack traveled to Columbus, Ohio, for a tri-meet with Ohio State and Central Michigan on Mar. 11, the team posted the fourth-best score in program history (196.800).
Scouting the Buckeyes
The Buckeyes arrive in Raleigh after a loss in their season-opener to then-ranked No. 7 Georgia, 196.600-194.900.Â
After entering the season ranked No. 18 in the WCGA Preseason Poll, the Buckeyes check in at No. 15 in the national rankings this week.Â
Ohio State's roster consists of five freshmen, five sophomores, three juniors, and three seniors.
Last season, the Buckeyes hosted the 2018 NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio, finishing third with a score of 196.500, the highest score at a NCAA Regional in program history.
Last Time Out
The Pack opened its season against Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday, Jan. 5. NC State defeated the Spartans 193.750-191.700 and Caitlyn Fillard recorded three podium finishes (all-around, bars, beam).
Three NC State newcomers made their debuts in a Wolfpack uniform (Alliah Harrison, Meredith Robinson, Nicole Webb). Robinson posted the top score in bars competition (9.775).
