Women’s Soccer Drops Exhibition With UNC-Chapel Hill, 3-2

RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision in its exhibition match with ACC preseason favorite UNC-Chapel Hill on Thursday morning at Dail Soccer Stadium. 20 different players saw time on the field, while five freshmen made their debuts in red and white. The exhibition marked the middle of preseason training, and gave the program a chance to evaluate its progress.

How It Happened
-Junior Ricci Walkling put the Pack on the board in the fourth minute with a shot from 25 yards that got past the outstretched UNC goalkeeper on an assist from Maxine Blackwood.
-The Tar Heels knotted the score at one after Dorian Bailey converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute.
-UNC-CH opened the second half of the match with a goal by Julia Ashley in the 48th minute, as she finished to the far left post from seven yards out.
-Alex Kimball gave the Heels a 3-1 advantage in the 73rd minute when her strike off of a cross to the left post got past Wootten in goal.
-Tziarra King cut the Pack's deficit to one in the 75th minute. With an assist from Walkling she managed to get inside the box on a breakaway and finish to the far left post.

NC State will open its season Aug. 16 when it travels to Navy. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, and live streaming will be available on the Patriot League Network.
