CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Cecily Overbey was named an All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) this week. She becomes the first player in NC State women's golf history to become a four-time All-American Scholar.
The High Point, N.C., native graduated in May with a degree in business administration and is currently pursuing a professional golf career.
Overbey was also named to the All-ACC Academic Team last month for the second straight year thanks to her success in the classroom. She completed her final semester with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, and compiled a 3.85 GPA over her four years at NC State.
She finished her collegiate career with a 77.80 stroke average, and became the 10th person in program history to reach 100 career rounds on May 10 at the NCAA San Francisco Regional. The standout played in all 11 tournaments during the 2017-18 season and posted a pair of top 20 individual finishes.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. Players must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and have competed in at least 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
