COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a strong showing at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, Justin Ress was selected to represent the United States at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in August.
Ress earned his spot on the team with his performance in the 100-meter backstroke, an event in which he placed third at the Phillips 66 National Championships. The rising senior also won silver in the 50-meter backstroke, swimming a time that was under the former American record.
He joins former member of the NC State swimming and diving team Hannah Moore, who was named to the U.S. National Team for the Pan Pacific Championships in the 10-kilometer open water event. Moore qualified for the team after being the third-highest American finisher at the French Open Water Championships in May.
Former Wolfpack swimmer Alexia Zevnik also earned a berth to compete at the Pan Pacific Championships, placing second in the 100-meter freestyle at the Canadian Swimming Trials to become one of 32 swimmers to represent Canada.
The 2018 Pan Pacific Championships will run from Aug. 9-14 in Tokyo at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center. Swimmers who earn a spot on their national teams in an event are eligible to enter to swim in any event at the Pan Pacific Championships. Combined results from the Phillips 66 National Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships will determine the roster of the 2019 FINA World Championships.
