McCarty, Hayes, and Winkler Lead Record-Setting Charge for NC State on Day Two

ATLANTA, GA - The NC State men's swimming team wrapped up its second full day of NCAA Championship competition with an impressive showing, capitalizing on key opportunities in the pool. The Wolfpack closed out day two with four school records and one ACC record.
Fifth-year veterans Aiden Hayes and Arsenio Bustos made their return to the NCAA stage in the 100 butterfly, with both earning All-American honors. Hayes secured a spot in the A-final after finishing third in his heat and posting a personal-best time, good for the second-fastest mark in program history. Bustos added a second-team All-American honor with a 13th-place finish.
Kaii Winkler delivered a standout performance in the 200 freestyle, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:30.83. He finished first in his heat and advanced to the A-final.
Hayes set the tone for the evening, breaking Luke Miller's school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 43.85, moving to the top of the program's all-time list. He placed seventh overall, marking his fourth career top-eight finish in the event.
Winkler returned for the 200 freestyle A-final in lane six, where he placed sixth overall with a time of 1:30.83, earning first-team All-American honors.
The Wolfpack closed the night with a record-breaking performance in the 200 freestyle relay. Quintin McCarty led off with a career-best 18.54 in the 50 freestyle, breaking his own school record. Drew Salls, Jerry Fox, and Winkler followed, combining to post a time of 1:13.73, shattering the ACC record, breaking the program record, and surpassing their previous ACC Championship gold medal-winning time.
NC State heads into day three in sixth place with 122 points, just behind California (124). The Wolfpack will compete in the 100 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and 400 medley relay. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
