McCarty Continues Record-Setting Run at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, GA. - After three full days of competition, another school record fell Friday evening as two-time ACC Champion Quintin McCarty delivered a standout performance for NC State.
Following a strong showing in the morning prelims of the 50 freestyle, McCarty raced to a fourth-place finish in the A-final with a time of 18.47, breaking his own school record and earning first-team All-American honors. McCarty stood on the podium as the fastest American swimmer.Â
The Wolfpack entered day three with nine swims in the preliminary session, highlighted by a strong showing in the 100 backstroke.
NC State placed four swimmers in the event, Kaii Winkler, Hudson Williams, Aiden Hayes, and Quintin McCarty. Hayes led the way with a personal-best time of 44.45, the third-fastest mark in program history, securing a spot in the A-final. McCarty finished ninth overall, earning second-team All-American honors.
Hayes returned in the finals session, placing eighth overall with a time of 44.49 to earn first-team All-American honors and a podium finish.
Freshman Max Carlsen concluded his first NCAA Championships with a 15th-place finish in the 500 freestyle, earning second-team All-American honors,his second of the meet.
Fifth-year veteran Arsenio Bustos added to the Wolfpack's success in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:51.77 to earn second-team All-American honors.
The morning concluded with the 400 medley relay team of Hudson Williams, Bustos, Hayes, and Winkler finishing 14th overall. The group posted a time of 3:02.33 to secure second-team All-American honors.
NC State enters the final day of competition in sixth place with 122 points. The Wolfpack will compete in the 200 IM, 100 freestyle, 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, and 400 freestyle relay. Preliminary heats begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
