Brown takes over as career leader in starts, Bailey breaks freshman HR record
RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Brian Brown set the program record for career starts and freshman Patrick Bailey broke the program record for home runs by a freshman, as the ninth-ranked NC State baseball team defeated Northeastern, 9-3, Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Raleigh Regional at Doak Field at Dail Park.
Brown takes over at the top of the Wolfpack record books with his 61st start on the mound, which leads all active Division I pitchers. Bailey surpasses Colt Morton's record for home runs by a freshman with his 12th to tie the mark in the first inning and his 13th to break the record in the fifth.
The Wolfpack advances to play in the first game on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. versus the loser of the Army-Auburn game Saturday night.
NC State moves to 41-17 on the year, while Northeastern's strong season comes to a close with a 36-21 overall record.

"When you have your back against the wall you can come out swinging or you can come out tentative," said head coach Elliott Avent. "These guys have always been swingers and they've always been sluggers and they battle, and that's what they've done.
"I talked to him (Brown) before the game and I said 'you know, you've got to give us not only what you've given us for four years but you need to give us a little more.' He did."
