
Evans Punches Ticket To National Championships In Shot Put

TAMPA, Fla. - Lauren Evans earned a spot at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career, posting a top-12 mark in the shot put at the NCAA East Preliminary meet Thursday evening.
She will advance to the national meet, which is set to take place in Eugene, Oregon June 6-9.

After finishing 14th in 2017, just two places shy of advancing, Evans qualified for a berth at the NCAA Championships with a ninth-place finish in the shot put. Two of her three attempts on the afternoon were personal bests, including her best throw of the day which was marked at 53' 10.25" (16.41m). The throw bettered her mark that stands at No. 2 in program history and made her the first shot putter from NC State since 2013 to advance to the NCAA Championships in the shot put.

SPRINTS:
Gabriele Cunningham reached the quarterfinal in the women's 100m for the second season in a row. The Wolfpack junior clocked a season-best 11.28 on the way to placing third in her heat to earn the automatic qualifying spot. Her quarterfinal race is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Friday.

Cravont Charleston narrowly missed advancing in the men's 100m. He clocked a 10.36 for the No. 25 time in the first round, falling just one place short of qualifying for the quarterfinal heats.
DISTANCE:
Elijah Moskowitz turned in a 29:51.71 in the men's 10,000m to place 14th, just outside of the top 12 who advanced to the national final in the event.
THROWS:
Joshua Davis competed in the hammer throw to kick off the weekend for the Wolfpack. The redshirt senior's 201' 1" (61.29m) throw was the second best in his flight as he finished 28th at the NCAA East Preliminary.
MID-DISTANCE:
NC State had three competitors in the men's and women's 1,500m Thursday afternoon. Philip Hall competed for the Wolfpack men, placing 30th in 3:49.95. On the women's side, Megan Rempel (4:32.95) and Anna Vess (4:33.16) placed 44th and 45th, respectively.
