Wolfpack pitcher only player from ACC to make the list
LUBBOCK, Texas – NC State baseball's Joe O'Donnell has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2018 Pitcher of the Year Award, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation.
O'Donnell is the only pitcher on the list from the ACC and one of just five relief pitchers.
The Wolfpack closer has compiled a 1.09 earned run average (ERA) in 21 appearances out of the bullpen. The Wilmington, N.C., native has struck out 34 batters in 24.2 innings and has only allowed three earned runs this season.
O'Donnell owns 10 saves to tie for the ACC lead and rank among the top pitchers in the NCAA in that category. He is a perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities this season.
Opposing batters are hitting just .165 against the redshirt senior with only three extra-base hits.
He recently broke the program record for career appearances with his 88thagainst Campbell and now holds 92, which is tied for the second most by an active pitcher in the ACC.
O'Donnell nailed down seven saves last season to own 17 for his career, the third most in NC State baseball history.
NC State is back in action tonight against No. 11 Florida State. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee.
