
NC State Wins Seven Events At Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The NC State track and field team earned seven first-place finishes and saw 20 competitors finish on the podium at the Gamecock Invitational Saturday.
The Wolfpack picked up wins across a variety of events, with athletes taking home gold in sprints, mid-distance races, and relays, as well as throws and jumps.Â
SPRINTS/HURDLES:Â
For the second meet in a row, NC State had multiple sprinters finish in the top three of the 200m. Dylan Peebles won the event for the second time this outdoor season as he clocked a 20.66 PR. His time was not only a personal best but also is a top 15 national mark and moved him to No. 7 on NC State's all-time 200m performance list.Â
Shannon Patterson took third with a 21.12. Both runners have already qualified for the conference meet.Â
Cravont Charleston competed in the 100m dash for the first time this outdoor season. His 10.58 time was good for fourth place and qualified him for the ACC Outdoor Championships, a meet from which he took home gold in the event last season.Â
Gabriele Cunningham once again found success in the 100m hurdles. The Wolfpack junior advanced out of the prelims with a 13.27 PR and went on to take second in the final, clocking a 13.30.
Cunningham earned her second silver medal of the day in the 200m. She ran a 23.57, which was not only good for second place but also qualified her for ACC Outdoors. Â
MID-DISTANCE:
The Wolfpack women went 1-2-4 in the 1,500m. Anna Vess led the way, placing first and establishing a five-second PR with a 4:33.71 time. Bethany Neeley followed just behind her, running a 4:34.18 for second place, and Megan Vaughn took fourth place with a 4:39.47 time.
Later in the afternoon, NC State once again dominated the top five, this time in the 800m. Megan Rempel (2:12.86) took first and was joined among the top finishers by Neeley (2:14.50) placing third and Vess (2:16.25) placing fifth.Â
On the men's side, Gavin Gaynor (3:57.66) and Tanis Baldwin (3:57.81) ran in the men's 1,500m, placing fifth and sixth, respectively.Â
Philip Hall capped off the mid-distance races for the Wolfpack with a third-place finish in the 800m. He clocked a 1:53.11 in his season debut in the event.Â
THROWS:
JaTory Reid started the day for the Wolfpack in the field events with a third-place finish in the javelin throw. His 146' 0" (44.50m) mark came on his second attempt of the morning.Â
Lauren Evans picked up podium finishes in both events that she competed in. She placed third in the hammer throw with a 179' 1" (54.58m) mark and second in the shot put with an ACC qualifying throw of 51' 8.75" (15.75m).Â
Fortenberry also added podium finishes in both of his events. Competing first in the shot put, Fortenberry won with a 52' 6.75" (16.02m) throw. In the discus, the Wolfpack thrower put up a personal-best showing. His 171' 8" (52.34m) throw was good for second and was an ACC qualifying mark.Â
JUMPS:
Michelle Cobb picked up her second triple jump win in as many outdoor meets. Her 40' 4" (12.20m) winning mark came on her second jump of the afternoon and was a personal-best for the Wolfpack freshman.Â
NC State's male high jumpers took first and second. Christopher Garrick notched a 6' 11.5" (2.12m) jump for first, and Reid posted a 6' 9" (2.06m) mark for second.
RELAYS:
To cap off a successful day on the track, both the women's and men's 4x400m relay teams finished on the podium.
Tiana Patillo, Janel Pate, Jada Griffin, and Cunningham teamed up on the women's side of the race. The four made school history, setting a new program record in the event with a 3:42.34 time.

Abdur Rahmaan Kelly, Peebles, Patterson, and Will Hoffmann took first place in the 4x400, running a 3:12.10.Â
UP NEXT:
NC State is set to send athletes to two meets next weekend. The Wolfpack will compete at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla. on Friday, April 13 and will also participate in the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, N.C. from April 13-14.
