Wolfpack Distance Runners Highlight Day 1 At Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - NC State distance runners Gavin Gaynor and Ryen Frazier both posted top four finishes on the Wolfpack's first day of competition at the historic Penn Relays.
Gaynor ran the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking in at 8:57.99 to place third in a field of 35 for his best finish in the event this outdoor season. His time was a personal-best and improved his ACC qualifying mark to put him at fifth in the conference in the event.
Frazier placed fourth in the women's 5,000m, also recording a season-best time of 16:28.74. Her mark added her to the list of female distance runners who have posted conference qualifying marks in the event.
On Thursday morning, Lauren Evans was the first member of the Wolfpack to see action at the Penn Relays, competing in both the shot put and the hammer throw on the first day of the meet. Evans took ninth place in the shot put with a 50' 9.25" (15.48m) throw on her second attempt.
Lauren White, NC State's only horizontal jumper competing at the meet, measured a long jump of 19' 2.75" (5.86m) on her way to placing seventh.

The Wolfpack will be back in action tomorrow with its sprinters and field athletes competing on day two of the meet. JaTory Reid (high jump) and Tyson Fortenberry (shot put) will open the day for NC State before Gabriele Cunningham (100m, 100H) and Cravont Charleston (100m) make their 2018 Penn Relays debuts on the track.
