Softball To Host Campbell Wednesday

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team will host Campbell Wednesday in a midweek contest. First pitch is 5 p.m. at Dail Stadium and the game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 20-19 season record while the Camels are 18-22.
Last Time Out
NC State hosted ACC opponent Boston College in a three-game series last weekend and suffered a sweep. The teams played a doubleheader on Friday where the Pack dropped both games 6-2 and 12-2 (5), and when the teams met for the finale on Sunday the Eagles triumphed 5-3 in nine innings.
All-Time Series
Wednesday will mark the 19th time the teams have met in program history as NC State leads the all-time series 16-2. Last year the Pack traveled to Buies Creek, N.C., and Campbell won 7-4.
Road Swing
Seven of the team's next nine games will be on the road. After Wednesday's game NC State will travel to UNC-CH this weekend, host Duke in a non-conference matchup next Wednesday then make trips to Syracuse and East Carolina.
Lucky Third
NC State has plated 37 runs in the third inning, the most scored in any frame this season. Nine of the team's 27 homers have come in the third inning, and the squad is 13-3 when leading at the conclusion of three innings.
Pack Youth
So far this season NC State's underclassmen have combined for 69 percent of the team's hits (183 of 262) and 71 percent of the team's runs (113 of 158). Sophomore Jade Caraway leads the team with 33 hits and 27 runs, while freshman Chandley Garner paces the team with eight home runs, eight multi-hit performances and seven multi-RBI games.
The underclassmen have made a combined 283 out of a possible 390 starts.
Plate Discipline
The Pack has drawn 126 walks this year, which ranks third in the ACC. Eight players on the roster are in double digits as Caraway paces the team with 21.
Scouting Campbell
Last weekend the Camels hosted Both South foe Radford and dropped the series 2-1. Campbell was shut out 8-0 in its first game and battled back in game two to win 7-6 and even the series, but fell 9-5 in the rubber match on Sunday.
As a team the Camels are batting .257 on the season, led by Rachel McCollum who owns a .402 clip with a team-best 51 hits and 31 runs. The squad is averaging 6.60 hits and 4.50 runs per game.
Campbell's pitching staff holds a combined 4.36 ERA, as Megan Richards leads the squad with a 3.68 ERA and a 12-8 record.
