Joshua Davis looks to win a national title on Saturday
USTFCCCA Release
NEW ORLEANS - Joshua Davis added to his list of honors from his record indoor season, earning recognition as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association Southeast Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the organization Monday morning. Davis garners the honors just days before he heads to compete in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
Davis put together an all-time season in the weight throw. He did not fall out of the national top two of the event for the entirety of the season, and he won seven of the eight indoor meets that he competed in.
A redshirt senior from Pelham, N.C., Davis most recently took home gold in the men's weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championships. He won with a 78' 2.25" (23.83m) throw that set a new PR, bested his previously-held school record, and broke an ACC record. His performance at ACC Indoors, which ranks No. 8 on the all-time collegiate list, put him back atop the national list as he heads to conclude his indoor season at the national meet.
Davis, as well as Gabriele Cunningham and Elly Henes, is set to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships later this week. The meet takes place from March 9-10 in College Station, Texas.
