
Pack Shoots Season-Low Round of 274 in Final Round of Hootie Intercollegiate

AWENDAW, S.C. – The NC State men's golf team shot a 14-under par 274 Tuesday in the final round of the Hootie Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay to finish in eighth place.
The Pack's 274 tied for the Pack's season-low round this season. NC State also shot a 274 in the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 17.
Four of NC State's five competitors shot their low rounds of the tourney on Tuesday.
Junior Benjamin Shipp shot a six-under par 66 to lead the Pack in the final round. The 66 is Shipp's season-low round. The Duluth, Ga., native's only blemish on the day was a double bogey on the second hole, but he rebounded with an eagle two holes later. Shipp also birdie holes 1,5,6,11,13 and 18 to finish the tournament in a tie for 10th place.
The finish marks Shipp's third top-10 finish in the 2017-18 season.
Stephen Franken was next for the Pack with a tie for 14th place. Franken shot his best round of the tournament – a three-under par 69 – on Tuesday. The Raleigh native had six birdies in the final round.
Harrison Rhoades finished in 26th place for the Pack with a final scorecard of 69-77-70—216. The rounds of 69 and 70 are the two lowest rounds of the season for the Raleigh native and his three-round score of 216 is also a season-best.
Freshman Easton Paxton finished in a tie for 42nd after shooting a 69 in the final round. The Riverton, Wyo., native had four biridies and just one bogey in the third round on Tuesday as the 69 marked his season-low score.
Nolan Mills Jr., rounded out the Pack lineup with a 70th place finish. Mills, Jr. shot his best round of the tourney in the final round with a 74.
Ole Miss claimed the team crown by one shot over Kent State. Kentucky finished in third place two shots back of Kent State. The Pack finished two shots behind Auburn and Wisconsin which finished in a tie for sixth place with scores of six-under par.
Branden Thornberry of Ole Miss won the individual crown with a score of 13-under par.
After three consecutive weeks of tournaments, the Pack will take a few weeks off from competition and will return to action Friday, April 13 when it begins play at the Stitch Intercollegiate at MacGregor Downs in Cary.
