
Pack Tied for Lead After One Round at Stitch Intercollegiate

CARY, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team is tied with Wake Forest for first place after one round of play at the Stitch Intercollegiate held at MacGregor Downs Country Club.
The Pack shot a six-under par 282 for the day to tie with Wake Forest on top of the leaderboard. UAB is in third place on shot back of first, while Duke is in fourth place one shot back of UAB. East Carolina rounds out the top-five and is two shots back of the Blue Devils.
Junior Justin Hood led the Pack on Friday with a three-under par 69. The score of 69 is the St. Matthews, S.C., native's low round of the season and he is currently tied for fourth place.
Hood recorded six birdies in his opening round as NC State combined for a tournament-best 25 birdies in the first round.
Junior Stephen Franken was next for the Pack with a two-under par 70 to stand alone in eighth place. Franken had five birdies on the day, including the final two holes of the round to head into Saturday's second round with some momentum.
Sophomore Benjamin Shipp is tied for ninth place with a one-under par 71. The Duluth, Ga., native had five birdies in the first 10 holes of the day, but ran into some trouble after making the turn, but like Franken, Shipp closed his opening round strong with back-to-back birdies.
Easton Paxton and Harrison Rhoades both shot even-par to round out the Pack lineup.
Nolan Mills Jr., and Christian Salzer are both competing as individuals this weekend. Salzer is tied for 37th on the leaderboard with a two-over par 74, while Mills is tied for 41st with a three-over par 75.
