
Pack Opens ACC Play With Dominant 7-0 Win Over Pitt

RALEIGH – Thanks to Timberlyn Shurbutt's three-run shot in the fifth inning and Chandley Garner's three-run blast in the sixth, the NC State softball team opened ACC play on Friday evening with a dominant 7-0 win over Pittsburgh at Dail Stadium.
After holding the Panthers to just four base hits NC State improves to 12-5 (1-0 ACC) and Pitt falls to 8-6-1 (0-1 ACC) on the season. The victory marks the team's fourth consecutive win and eighth in nine games.
How It Happened
-Jade Caraway brought in the first run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Chandley Garner from second after she led off the frame with a walk and advanced on Natalie Jones's one-out single through the left gap.
-After an error and fielder's choice put runners on the corners, Shurbutt went deep to left center to extend the Pack's lead to four.
-In the sixth Alyssa Compton led off with a double to left center and Haylee Kobziak followed with a walk, putting two on for Garner as she homered to center field to bring in the other three runs of the game.
