GREENSBORO, N.C. - Joshua Davis and Elly Henes received recognition as recipients of the Atlantic Coast Conference's Performer of the Year awards for the 2018 indoor track and field season, the league office announced Friday morning. Davis was named the Men's Field Performer of the Year, and Henes claimed Women's Track Performer of the Year honors, as determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.Â
The award makes Henes the first female in the history of the program to earn ACC Performer of the Year honors. Davis is NC State's second ACC Men's Field Performer of the Year since the conference began naming separate Performers of the Year for track events and field events in 2007.
Davis added to his already-decorated redshirt senior campaign, during which he was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season and became the Southeast Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. He ended his record-setting season with a bronze medal in the men's weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships, tallying a 75' 3.25" (22.94m) throw to become an All-American for the third time.
A native of Pelham, N.C. Davis hit a season-best mark of 78' 2.25" (23.83m) at the ACC Championships to win gold. The throw not only bettered his PR and school record but was also a new overall conference record.Â
Henes became an ACC Champion for the first time in her NC State career. The Cary, N.C. native claimed the gold medal in the women's 3,000m with a time of 9:18.67.
Henes, a cross country All-American, also saw tremendous success in the 5,000m, an event in which she set a new program record in during the regular season with a time of 15:43.84 (15:36.67 converted). The mark qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships, where she placed seventh to garner First Team All-America honors for the first time in her track and field career.
