
Softball Continues ACC Play At Georgia Tech

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team will continue ACC play this weekend when it travels to Georgia Tech for a three-game series. The teams will meet Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. All three games will be contested at Mewborn Field and streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Wolfpack enters the weekend with a 14-9 (2-3 ACC) record and the Yellow Jackets are 14-8 (3-0 ACC) this season.
Last Time Out
NC State hosted Notre Dame on Saturday in a doubleheader and split its pair of games. After dropping game one 15-0 (5), the Pack bounced back and evened the series with a 4-1 win. Due to inclement weather the rubber match on Sunday was cancelled.
In the 4-1 win Devin Wallace threw her fifth complete game of the season, limiting the Irish to just two hits, while Timberlyn Shurbutt tallied seven assists in the game to mark the second-most in program history in a single game.
All-Time Series
Friday will mark the 45th time the teams have met, as the Yellow Jackets own a 28-16 advantage. Last year NC State traveled to Atlanta for three games and clinched the series 2-1. The Pack dropped game one 7-6 after 10 innings, and battled back to take the last two games 12-11 and 3-0.
NC State has won seven out of the last 12 meetings with the Yellow Jackets.
Future Is Bright
So far this season NC State's underclassmen have combined for 70.3 percent of the team's hits (116 of 165) and 70.9 percent of the team's runs (78 of 110). Sophomore Jade Caraway leads the team with 22 hits and 18 runs, while freshman Timberlyn Shurbutt owns a team-best six doubles and five home runs.
The underclassmen have made a combined 167 out of a possible 230 starts.
Plate Discipline
The Pack has drawn 85 walks this year, which ranks second in the ACC. Five players on the roster are in double digits as Chandley Garner paces the team with 12.
Pack Defense
While earning six shutouts and two no-hitters this year, NC State is tied for second in the ACC in fielding percentage (.970) and leads the league in assists (239). Cheyenne Balzer leads the conference in putouts with 172, while Shurbutt, Alyssa Compton and Garner all rank among the top 20 percent of the ACC in assists.

Last weekend the Jackets opened ACC play at Virginia and swept the Cavaliers, highlighted by an 18-9 run-rule win in game two to clinch the series.
Georgia Tech owns a 7-4 record at home and has won 11 out of its last 13 games. Its most recent outing was on Wednesday when it hosted No. 12 Alabama and narrowly fell 3-1.
Cameron Stanford leads the team at the plate with a .353 clip with 18 hits and runs, while seven other players on the roster have tallied at least 14 hits this season.
The pitching staff holds a combined 2.47 ERA, as Emily Anderson paces the staff with a 1.44 ERA and 10 wins. She owns 92 of the team's 113 strikeouts this season.
