Joshua Davis, Gabriele Cunningham, and Elly Henes qualified to compete at the national meet next weekend
INDIANAPOLIS - Three members of the NC State track and field team have advanced to participate in competition at the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in College Station, Texas from March 9-10.Â
Joshua Davis (weight throw), Gabriele Cunningham (60m hurdles), and Elly Henes (5,000m) all qualified for the national meet after posting top-16 national marks in their respective events during the indoor season. The meet marks Davis' third appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships after making appearances in 2016 and 2017. Cunningham and Henes will make their first appearances at the championships.Â
Coming off of a record-breaking performance at the ACC Indoor Championships, Davis enters the weight throw competition as the event's top seed with a 78' 2.25" (23.83m) mark. That throw earned him a gold medal at the conference meet and put him back at the top of the national list. Davis, who has not fallen outside of the national top two all season, is a two-time All-American weight thrower. He placed fifth at the national meet in 2017.Â
Cunningham holds the No. 9 seed in the 60m hurdles with her 8.05 mark that she clocked at the Tiger Paw Invitational. The time was a personal-best and set a new school record in the event.Â
Henes qualified as the No. 3 seed in the 5,000m with a converted time of 15:36.67, which she posted at the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track. Her 5K time is the fastest in school history.Â
