USTFCCCA Release
New Orleans, La. - NC State track and field All-American Joshua Davis has been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Division I National Athlete of the Week, as announced by the organization Tuesday morning. It marks the second time this season that Davis has been named National Athlete of the Week.
A redshirt senior from Pelham, N.C., Davis won the gold medal in the men's weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championships Friday afternoon with a record-breaking performance inside at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex. His 78' 2.25" (23.83m) throw bested his PR and previous school record by almost two feet to give him an ACC title, the Wolfpack's first in the event since 2003.Â

In addition to taking first place, Davis rewrote the history books with his performance at the conference meet. His throw set a new ACC all-time record, as well as a championship record and facility record. Davis became just the ninth collegiate athlete in history to surpass 78 feet in the event, and his mark stands as the second-best throw in the world this season, falling just one-fourth of an inch short of the world's best mark, which was set at the USATF Indoor Championships earlier this month.Â
Davis remained dominant in the weight throw throughout indoor competition. He held a spot in the national top two of the event for the entirety of the season after starting his year with a 76' 3" throw at the JDL College Kick-off. Davis finished on the podium in all eight indoor meets that he competed in, winning seven of them.
His performance at the ACC Indoor Championships secured his spot at the top of the NCAA Indoor List as he heads to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships from March 9-10.Â
