RYCHCIK'S REVIEW
On playing two three-hour games today
"I think we're well-conditioned. It's a long day there's no doubt about it, but I don't think that being tired had anything to do with it. I tell the kids that every pitcher that comes out it's like a puzzle and you have to solve it, figure out what they're doing and the find adjustments that need to be made. In the second game we just couldn't solver her (Kenna Wilkey) today. We got a couple of hits and had some walks off her but could never really solve the hitting side of it. We had a couple of innings where we had people on base early and just couldn't get that timely hit."
On Devin Wallace's complete game
"She never really had it today but there's a term in softball that sometimes you're wild enough to be effective. She did walk some batters and we have to get that down, but Northwestern couldn't square her up. They had a couple of good hits and the rest were just infield dribblers. She was able to avoid digging too big of a hole for herself despite not having her best stuff tonight. Overall I'm pleased though. Our pitchers are competing, keeping us in games and giving us a chance."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One
-The Pack and Buckeyes were kept at bay in the first four innings, and in the fifth the Pack took a 2-0 lead. Sam Russ led off the inning with a bunt single to third base and Jade Caraway's double put runners on second and third. Angie Rizzi then hit a ground ball to OSU's shortstop, Lilli Piper, and Piper tried to stop Russ from scoring but she managed to beat the tag.
-NC State added another run in the seventh inning when Lily Bishop hit an RBI single down the right field line, scoring Russ after she led off the frame with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a 4-6 fielder's choice.
-Ohio State knotted the game in the bottom frame with Kallie Boren's 2-RBI double to left field and Piper's RBI single to right field.
-In the eighth inning Caraway's sacrifice fly to center field scored pinch runner Macauley Prickett. Jessica Moore, who Prickett replaced, led off the inning with a base hit up the middle and Prickett advanced on a sacrifice bunt and bunt single.
-OSU's Shelby McCombs hit a walk off two-run home run to center field in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
-Caraway and Russ led the team at the plate with two hits apiece, as Russ scored two of the team's four runs.
