#23 Wolfpack Sweeps Tar Heels with Sunday’s 73-54 Victory

NC State achieves 20 wins for third straight season

RALEIGH – The No. 23/23 NC State women's basketball team (20-6, 9-4 ACC) concluded a regular-season sweep of the rival UNC-Chapel Hill Tar Heels for the second time in three seasons Sunday afternoon, earning a commanding 73-54 win before a sellout crowd of 5,500 fans inside Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State was led by 18 points on 7-14 shooting from sophomore guard Aislinn Konig. She was joined in double figures by Armani Hawkins (14 points), Chelsea Nelson (11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds), and Kiara Leslie (11 points). Kaila Ealey was not far from a triple-double, as she accumulated nine points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in the victory. Sophomore forward Erika Cassell also grabbed 12 rebounds in the win and has collected 23 in the last two games.
Paris Kea scored a game-high 21 points on 8-19 shooting to lead the Tar Heels. She was joined in double figures by 13 from Janelle Bailey (10 rebounds) and 11 by Jamie Cherry.

-NC State has won five of the last six in the series with UNC, leads the overall series 56-50, and holds a 28-15 edge in games played in Raleigh.

UNC took an early 12-5 lead and would hold a 15-14 advantage over the Wolfpack after the game's opening 10 minutes. The Wolfpack responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Tar Heels 20-6 en route to taking a commanding 34-21 lead into the halftime break.
NC State cruised through the second half, never allowing UNC to come closer than within 11 points (34-23 early in the third quarter). The Wolfpack achieved its largest lead of the game (26 points) when Hawkins hit a three-pointer with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter.
NC State will enjoy a midweek bye date on its schedule before playing its final home game of the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 18 vs. Wake Forest. The game will tip off at noon on ESPNU and will serve as NC State's 13th annual Play4Kay Game.
