#10 NC State Earns Program’s 900th Win at Chattanooga

Wolfpack enters Christmas break with perfect 12-0 record

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – With a 78-58 win during head coach Wes Moore's return to Chattanooga on Friday night, the 10th-ranked NC State women's basketball team (12-0) achieved a significant milestone by becoming just the 31st program in the history of NCAA Division I women's basketball to reach the 900-win threshold.
The Wolfpack never trailed on Friday evening and led for 39:10 of the game's 40 minutes.
Freshman Elissa Cunane led all players with 19 points on 7-9 shooting. She was joined in double figures by Grace Hunter (17) and Kiara Leslie (12). With 6:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, Hunter surpassed 1,000 career points and currently sits at 1,003 in her third season of collegiate basketball.
The Wolfpack nearly doubled up Chattanooga on the boards, out-rebounding the Mocs 45-23. Leslie and Kayla Jones each grabbed eight rebounds.
Postgame Notes
-NC State is 2-0 against Chattanooga.
-The Wolfpack shot a season-best 18-21 (.865) from the free-throw line.
-For only the second time this season (Michigan), NC State made fewer than five three-pointers.
-The Wolfpack continues its second best start to a season in program history. Only the 1999-2000 team began with a better record (14-0).
NC State got off to a very strong start, connecting on its first six field goals to take an early 16-5 lead. The Wolfpack continued to shoot well throughout the rest of the half, connecting on 17-32 (.531) of its shots in the opening 20 minutes to take a 45-31 lead into the halftime break. Cunane led all players with 13 points on 5-6 shooting in the first half.
Chattanooga pulled within 13 points (54-41) with 4:39 remaining in the third quarter, but would come no closer the rest of the way. On two occasions in the fourth quarter, NC State's lead ballooned out to 25 points before the game was settled at the final margin of 20 points.
NC State closes out the 2018 calendar year when it hosts Davidson on Dec. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm from Kay Yow Court inside James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra/WatchESPN.com/the ESPN app.
