RALEIGH – NC State diver James Brady is set to compete at the USA Diving Winter Trials, which take place from Dec. 16-21 at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack junior begins competition at the national meet Tuesday morning.
Brady will head to Atlanta to compete in two individual events, as he's entered in the fields for the three-meter dive and the platform dive. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native will also be in action in the synchronized platform dive, as he pairs up with Ohio State's Aaron Daniels-Freeman. The duo previously paired up in their pre-collegiate years, highlighted by a synchronized platform title at the 2015 USA Diving Junior National Championships.
Brady most recently competed at the IU Invitational, where he capped off a successful outing with a first-place finish in the platform dive for his first event win of the season. With his first dive of the outing, he hit 80 points on a dive for the first time in his career on the way to taking first with a Zone mark of 353.30.
The Wolfpack junior owns the program record in the platform dive, which he took ownership of at the Tennessee Diving Invite in 2018 and then re-set at the NCAA Zone B Championships a few months later. Last season, Brady advanced to the NCAA Championships in two events as he qualified in both the three-meter and the platform dives. He secured top-25 finishes in both events at the national meet.
AT STAKE:
Brady will be competing for selection to the 2019 World University Games roster. A total of seven men and seven women will earn spots on the United States roster for the summer event.
The Winter Trials will also determine the teams for select FINA Grand Prix meets scheduled for 2019, with the selection criteria varying for each Grand Prix event.

During each day of competition at the national meet, prelims will be contested in the morning.
