TULSA, Okla. – The NC State men's tennis team concluded competition at the Saint Francis Health System Men's ITA All-American Championships Friday evening as seniors Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic finished play in the consolation draws.
The 15th-ranked duo faced a tough test in the first round of the doubles back draw, matching up against San Diego's 10th-ranked duo of Nico Borter and Guilherme Osorio. Igor and Ivan won the first set by a 6-3 score, but the Toreros pair took the second set 7-6 (6) and the third set 10-3 in a super tiebreaker to win the match.
Playing in the singles back draw, No. 71 Igor dropped the first set but fought to force a third set against 30th-ranked August Holmgren of San Diego. Holmgren ultimately took the 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory to continue advancing through the consolation bracket.
UP NEXT:
The Wolfpack will turn its attention to the ITA Carolina Regional, which returns to the Cary Tennis Park Oct. 12-16. The tournament will pit NC State's players against opponents from universities across North and South Carolina and provides another opportunity for the Wolfpack to earn spots at the ITA National Fall Championships, which is scheduled to be played in November.
