Softball Drops Fall Opener With UNC-CH, 9-7

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State softball team dropped its fall opener to UNC-Chapel Hill at Anderson Stadium on Thursday evening, 9-7.

The Wolfpack took a 4-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a pair of home runs, but a five-run surge on three hits and an error in the sixth by the Tar Heels ultimately led to the result.

Skylar Johnston went 2-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run and double, while Sam Russ hit a three-run home run and Madeline Curtis brought in a pair of runs with a double.

Sydney Nester got the start in the circle for the Pack, throwing five no-hit innings while striking out a total of 10 batters in the contest. She was relieved by Devin Wallace in the sixth, but re-entered in a bases-loaded situation. Kama Woodall made an appearance in the final inning.

The team is back in action Friday when it travels to East Carolina for a 10-inning contest First pitch is 6 p.m. at ECU Softball Stadium.
