Igor Saveljic Advances to Singles Round of 32 at ITA Carolina Regional

CARY, N.C. – After a busy opening day of singles action at the ITA Carolina Regional, the NC State men's tennis team saw senior Igor Saveljic pick up two singles wins to advance to the round of 32.
Playing at the Cary Tennis Park Friday, the Wolfpack had eight players competing in the first rounds of singles.
Igor, who is ranked 71st nationally in singles, cruised past Appalachian State's Zion Heaven in the first round, defeating the Mountaineer by a 6-3, 6-2 score. In the round of 64, Igor once again handled his opponent in straight sets as he beat South Carolina's Patrick Cacciatore 6-3, 6-2 to stay alive in the main draw.
Tadas Babelis and Collin Shick also picked up first-round wins before falling in the round of 64. Babelis faced Dustin Werner of Campbell and beat him 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5), and Shick defeated Simon Labbe of ECU 6-4, 6-4.
After dropping their matches in the first round, Michael Ogden and Robert Turzak bounced back to pick up wins in the consolation draw. They will resume play in the back draw Saturday afternoon.
SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE:
Play at the Cary Tennis Park will continue Saturday morning with a full day of matches on slate for NC State. The Wolfpack will be back in action in singles, as the rounds of 32 for both the main draw and the back draw will be played. Doubles action also kicks off Saturday with two rounds of play.
