Nelson Joins 1,000-Point Club as Wolfpack Tames Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. – The NC State women's basketball team (17-5, 6-3 ACC) picked up its fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference win on Sunday afternoon, earning a 62-41 victory over the Clemson Tigers inside Littlejohn Coliseum.

Senior forward Chelsea Nelson entered the contest with 995 career points to her name and became the 33rd member of the 1,000-point club at NC State after scoring 10 in the victory. Teammate Kiara Leslie led all players with 22 points on 9-16 shooting to tie a career high. She also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season.

NC State led for exactly 39 of the game's 40 minutes and Clemson (11-11, 1-8) never once was in front. The Wolfpack thoroughly dominated the Tigers on the boards, claiming a 53-22 advantage for its largest positive margin of the season.

Postgame Notes
-NC State now leads the series 57-30, has won nine in a row against the Tigers, and five straight at Clemson. The Wolfpack's last loss to Clemson was on Jan. 6, 2011.
-At 17-5, the Wolfpack is one game better than it was at this time last year through 22 games (16-6).
-Sunday's win was the 31st true road win under Moore (fifth season at NC State). In the prior eight seasons from 2005-06 to 2012-13, the Wolfpack earned 32 true road wins.
-All 12 available Wolfpack players played at least two minutes in the contest.
-Sophomore Katie Wadsworth made the first field goal of her career during the win, hitting a three-pointer from the corner with 1:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.
-Junior DD Rogers grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, which was only 10 fewer than Clemson.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, with NC State operating at a 10-30 (.333) clip to take a 25-17 lead. The Wolfpack limited the Tigers to just 7-27 (.259) shooting while outrebounding them 29-14. Leslie led all scorers in the opening 20 minutes with 10 points on 4-7 shooting from the field. Rogers grabbed eight rebounds in just 13 minutes on the court during the first half.

Nelson crossed the 1,000-point threshold when she hit a mid-range jumper with 6:48 remaining in the second quarter to give the Wolfpack a 22-9 advantage. The Tigers responded, scoring eight of the next 11 points before the halftime whistle.

The Wolfpack put the game out of reach in the third quarter, scoring 22 of 28 points in the period to take a 47-23 lead into the final 10 minutes of the game. Clemson pulled no closer than within 16 points during the final quarter.
