Men’s Golf to Open Fall Season at Wolf Run Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's golf team opens the season Friday at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. The tournament will mark the first time NC State hits the links under new head coach Press McPhaul.
The former Wolfpack player replaced his college coach Richard Sykes in June. Sykes retired at the conclusion of last season after 46 years as head coach of the Pack.

2016-17 RECAP
-NC State finished in seventh place in last year's NCAA Regional, just five shots back of advancing to the NCAA National Championships.
-The appearance in the NCAA Regional was the Pack's ninth berth in the NCAA field in the last 10 seasons.
- Four of the five golfers that represented NC State in last year's NCAA Regional return for the Pack this season.
NC STATE LINEUP
1 – Stephen Franken: Franken was a PING All-Region and All-ACC Team selection last season. He competed in all 12 tournaments for the Pack. He finished first on the team in stroke average. His 71.17 strokes per round average was the fourth lowest in program history. He recorded eight top-20 finishes and had six top-10 results
2 – Christian Salzer: Salzer competed in six tournaments and 17 total rounds during his freshman season. He averaged 74.4 strokes per round and had one top-10 finish on the year.
3 – Harrison Rhoades: Rhoades was an All-ACC Academic Team selection last season. He competed in nine tournaments and 26 rounds during the 2017 spring season after transferring to NC State from Georgetown. He ranked fourth on the team with a stroke average of 73.0 per round and earned three top-20 and one top-10 finish on the season.
4 – Benjamin Shipp: Shipp was a PING All-Region Team selection after a solid freshman debut for the Wolfpack. He competed in 11 tournaments and 32 total rounds as a freshman, averaging 72 strokes per round to rank third on the team. He earned six top-20 finishes and had four top-10 results. He shot rounds of 67 on four different occasions.
5 – Nolan Mills: Mills competed in 12 tournaments as a sophomore last season. He ranked fifth on the team in stroke average at 73.1 per round. He claimed medalist honors twice. He won the 2017 Wolfpack Spring Open with a three-round score of 200, shooting 66-67-67 and also claimed top honors at the Barton Intercollegiate.
