
Women’s Golf Wins Ocean Course Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The NC State women's golf team is off to a strong start in the fall portion of its 2017-18 season as the squad picked up a win at the Ocean Course Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in Kiawah Island, S.C.
Hosted by the College of Charleston at The Ocean Course, the Wolfpack shot a combined score of 294 on Tuesday to finish with a five-over par 881 and edge Florida State by three strokes.
Laura Kowohl led the squad with a second-place finish, firing a four-under 69 in the final round to mark a career-best outing at 214 (-5).
"I'm super excited to kick off this fall season with a team win at such a wonderful location, and to finish second as an individual is even more amazing," said Kowohl. "I enjoyed every single moment at this resort and am just so happy to be part of this incredible team. I'm proud of our hard work, commitment and passion for the game!"
India Clyburn and Naomi Ko tied for sixth overall, posting a one-under 218 for 54 holes with rounds of 73 and 72 respectively.
Cecily Overbey turned in a final round of 80 and moved up four spots from Monday on the leaderboard. She finished T69th with a 243 (+24) total. Crystal Huang rounded out the Pack's scores with a nine-over 82 to finish in a tie for 51st. This marked her best collegiate finish as she shot a three-round score of 233 (+14).
NC State will return to action Sept. 18-19 at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, hosted by Tennessee at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
