#PackXC Women Place Third, Men Pull Two Upsets at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The NC State men's and women's cross country programs put solid performances together Friday afternoon at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The Wolfpack women placed third as a team in one of the deepest women's fields the sport has seen this year, while the men's team pulled upsets over two nationally ranked programs.
Women's Race Recap:
No. 7 NC State squared off against six other nationally ranked teams as the Pack placed third with 118 total points in the women's Blue Race. Sophomore Elly Henes was NCSU's top finisher, crossing the line 13th with a personal-best 5K time of 16:42.9.
Redshirt junior Rachel Koon made her season debut after claiming All-America honors a year ago. The Asheville native placed 16th overall with a time of 16:47.2. Dominique Clairmonte (19th), Beth Taye (23rd) and true freshman Julia Zachgo (47th) rounded out the Wolfpack top five.
Other finishers for the Wolfpack included Bianca Bishop (53rd), Ryen Frazier (55th), Bethany Neeley (67th) and Isabel Zimmermann (91st).

The Wolfpack men, who entered the meet ranked 30th in the country, placed ninth overall as a team with a total of 208 points in the Men's Blue 5-Mile. The Pack outperformed No. 11 Washington State and No. 29 Eastern Michigan, who finished 11th and 12th at the meet, respectively.
The NC State men truly ran as a 'Pack' as the top 5 runners finished over a span of just 23 seconds. Junior Elijah Moskowitz was the Pack's highest finisher for the second-straight meet, placing 26th with a 24:18.0 performance. Ben Barrett (34th), Philip Hall (40th), Joe Bistritz (52nd) and Aubrey Myjer (57th) rounded out the five scorers for NC State.
Crossing the line next for the Pack was Edwin Rutto, who turned in a 63rd-place outing. Other finishers included Patrick Sheehan (80th), Alec Thomas (81st) and Tanis Baldwin (90th).
Open Race Recap:
The Wolfpack men had a duo compete in the Open Race, which was a combination of a women's 5K and a men's 5-mile field. Redshirt-freshman Tim Bason was the first male athlete to cross the line, clocking in with a time of 25:08.2 over the 5 mile course. Graduate transfer Brendan Johnson placed 16th in his first race with the Wolfpack.
