Hannah Gapes & Alum Toby Gualter named to New Zealand's World Athletics Road Running Championship Team

RALEIGH, N.C. - On June 10th, current NC State distance runner Hannah Gapes and Wolfpack alum Toby Gualter were named to New Zealand's team for the World Athletics Road Running Championships.
Gapes will compete in the 5K, while Gualter is set to race in the half marathon at the championships, which will be held Sept. 19-20 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
During the 2025 cross country season, Gapes posted a season-best 18:51.3 in the 6K to finish fifth overall at the NCAA Championships, where she earned All-American honors. She was also a two-time ACC Performer of the Week, USTFCCCA NCAA DI National Athlete of the Week and was named Southeast Region Athlete of the Year and ACC Women's Performer of the Year. She was also the 2025 New Zealand XC National Champion and represented New Zealand in the World Athletics XC Championships in January 2026.
Gualter represented the Wolfpack as a distance runner from 2023-24 as a graduate student before beginning his professional career.
