#PackXC Women Take Third at #NuttyInvite; Men Upset Eight Ranked Teams

In undoubtedly the deepest field of competition the sport has seen this season, the Wolfpack cross country sqauds held their own Friday afternoon in Madison.

MADISON, Wis. -- The NC State men's and women's cross country programs competed against a field of competition that featured a total of 36 nationally ranked teams Friday afternoon at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. The NC State women took third place as a team, while the Wolfpack men finished 15th.
Redshirt-freshman Dominique Clairmonte was the Pack's top finisher for the first time in her career, clocking a time of 20:13.4 in her collegiate 6K debut to place 16th. Sophomore Elly Henes followed closely behind with a personal-best 6K time of 20:15.8, good for 22nd place at the meet.
Beth Taye also notched a personal-best mark in the 6K race, shaving nearly 25 seconds off her PR as she ran a 20:23.8 and placed 31st. Rachel Koon (20:34.1, 41st) and Ryen Frazier (20:52.6, 59th) rounded out the top-five for the Wolfpack.
Other finishers for NC State included Bianca Bishop and Julia Zachgo. Bishop ran a time of 21:06.1 that was less than a second from her PR, while Zachgo put up a mark of 21:27.2 in her first collegiate 6K.
Elijah Moskowitz continued his standout junior campaign as the Pack's top finisher for the third-straight meet. He finished 51st individually with a time of 24:21.2.
NC State's second through sixth runners truly ran as a 'Pack' as they all finished within a span of 17 seconds. Tanis Baldwin was the Wolfpack's second man across, finishing with a personal-best 8K time at 24:37.6. Edwin Rutto followed closely behind, also clocking a PR at 24:47.0.
2016 All-ACC performers Patrick Sheehan and Ben Barrett completed the NC State top five, posting times of 24:52.4 and 24:54.1, respectively. Joe Bistritz, who was named ACC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 4, was right on Barrett's heels as he put up an 8K PR of 24:54.7.
Alec Thomas and Tim Bason ran for the Pack in the Men's "B" 8K. Thomas demolished his PR by more than a minute, placing 16th overall with a 25:04.2 performance. Bason finished 59th in the B race with a time of 25:58.2.
NC State Cross Country/Track & Field staff member Luis Vargas ran unattached and took home the individual title in the men's "B" race. The former All-American Wolfpack athlete dominated the 8K with a time of 23:41.2, posting the fastest time in the field by 58 seconds.
