RALEIGH – The No. 25 NC State women's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule on Sunday afternoon at Dail Soccer Stadium with a 1-0 win over Western Carolina, extending its unbeaten streak to five matches.
The Wolfpack improves to 7-1-1 on the season while the Catamounts fall to 3-5-1.
COACH SANTORO'S TAKE
Head coach Tim Santoro
"We were tired from Friday," said Santoro. "It took a lot out of us so we weren't sharp today, but we still controlled the game. We would have liked to be a little better in the final third of the field and scored a couple of more goals, but credit to Western Carolina they were really organized defensively and played hard. Anytime you win though you take it and move on."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ricci Walkling's converted penalty kick in the 33rd minute was the difference after Maxine Blackwood won the kick.
The Pack recorded a season-high 19 shots in the match with 12 of them coming in the second half, as Kia Rankin led the squad with eight.
Sydney Wootten played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.
UP NEXT
NC State returns to action Thursday when it hosts Boston College, marking the final a five-match home stand. Kickoff is 7 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Networks Extra.
