Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Play at Duke Bonk Invitational

RALEIGH – Fall play has finally arrived for the NC State women's tennis team, as it looks to build off a 2016-17 season that saw it reach a program-best No. 16 in the NCAA rankings when it takes to the court for the Duke Bonk Invitational from Sept. 15-17 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Invitational format
The doubles will be played with a set rotation with each duo playing three matches.
The opening two matches will occur at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, with third matches beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Sept. 16.
The singles will feature both a winner's and a consolation side of the bracket based upon results of the opening matches, which begin on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Semifinals and consolation semifinals will commence on Sept. 16 at 12:30 p.m., with finals and consolation finals occurring on Sept. 17 at 9:00 a.m.
Doubles
The duo of sophomore Anna Rogers & junior Claudia Wiktorin, ranked No. 26 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason doubles poll, starts things off for NC State at 9:00 a.m. when it takes on Rebecca Smaller & Emma Lazic of the Duke Blue Devils.
Also playing doubles at 9:00 a.m. will be junior Bianca Moldovan & sophomore Adriana Reami. This duo faces University of North Carolina pairing Maggie Kane & Cassandra Vazquez.
At 10:00 a.m., Rogers & Wiktorin play against Daniela Pedraza Novak & Asuka Kawai of Illinois while the Molodvan – Reami duo matches up with Chloe Oullet-Pizer & Makenna Jones of UNC.
On 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Rogers & Wiktorin face Meible Chi & Kelly Chen of Duke, while Reami & Moldovan take on Georgia Tech's Kenya Jones & Nami Otsuka.
Singles
Beginning at 3:00 p.m., Rogers, who earned the No. 79 singles ranking in the ITA preseason poll, will be in action against Duke's Ellyse Hamlin. Reami will take on Peggy Porter of Florida, while Moldovan battles Kane of UNC. Rounding out singles play for NC State will be Wiktorin as she faces Florida's Brooke Austin, who is ranked No. 93 on the ITA preseason poll.
