#25 Women’s Soccer Opens ACC Slate With #3 Virginia Friday

RALEIGH – The No. 25 NC State women's soccer team (6-1-0) is set to open its ACC schedule Friday when it welcomes No. 3 Virginia (5-2-0) to Dail Soccer Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack defeated Davidson 4-0 on Sept. 10, as Kia Rankin and Tziarra King scored goals in the first eight minutes of the contest and Rachel Cox sealed the shutout win with goals in the 43rd and 79th minutes.
SERIES HISTORY
NC State and Virginia will meet for the 40th time in program history Friday evening, as the Cavaliers hold a 26-13 advantage in the all-time series.
The squads met on Oct. 20 last season in Raleigh and UVa came away with a 3-1 victory.
KING NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After playing an integral part in the NC State women's soccer team's three wins last week, King was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
She netted four goals and had an assist in the Pack's matches as eight of her combined nine shots last week were on goal. She leads the conference with 16 points and her six goals ties a league high.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
NC State landed back in the national rankings this week, checking in at No. 25 on the latest Soccer America Poll. The squad is additionally receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 29.
STAT LEADERS
NC State currently leads the ACC in points (57), goals and goals per game (19/2.71), assists and assists per game (19/2.71), and ties for first in the team standings with its 6-1-0 ledger.
On the national level the squad ranks among the top 12 in all five offensive categories.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
Virginia is coming off of a tough portion of its schedule as it faced No. 1 UCLA and No. 5 Penn State at home last week. The Cavaliers dropped a 2-1 result with the Bruins but rebounded with a 3-2 victory over the Nittany Lions. UVa's schedule is additionally highlighted by a 2-1 win over second-ranked West Virginia.
Taylor Ziemer and Taryn Torres lead the squad with two goals apiece while the team is averaging 1.57 goals per game and is outshooting its opponents 111-42. Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory has played in all seven matches for the Cavaliers and has recorded 12 saves and a .84 goals against average.
UVa is ranked fifth on this week's United Soccer Coaches Poll and third in Soccer America's.
